What really galls me about Republicans as a party is how they crucified Clinton because he lied about an indiscretion that didn't take any lives, didn't raise the cost of gasoline, and didn't drain our economic resources (except for the extent to which they carried it).
But then here comes ol' George Bush, whose told as many lies to the American public in the last six years as he lived in years on this earth.
The Republicans have always wanted "less government," but exactly what does that mean? Well for them it means that they should be able to Enron the American public right into the ground. For them it means a ban on regulations that prevent price-gouging. For them it means that the government should look the other way when they hire illegal immigrants for less than minimum wage. But damn those honest politicians-of both parties.
But what do we, the people, get when they have all the power? Well, we get put on the high security risk list if we don't have a certain amount of money in the bank, or a high number on our credit rating or if our skin is the wrong color, our name "foreign" or perhaps if our clothing does not have the right labels. We get our phones tapped and our e-mails read, we have our library usage tracked, as well as where we go on the web. And we have Homeland Security and other federal agencies that are more concerned with Wal-mart shoppers who stock up on batteries or other alleged "components" of home made explosives, than they are with the sale of anti-aircraft missles at gun shows.
We have an administration that allows not just the ownership of guns for self-protection, but continues to support the right of an American to arm his own militia with anti-aircraft missles, machine guns, etc. And we have an administration that will do as it damn well pleases, because it can!
Less government? Yeah! Why don't we start by electing less Republicans, particularly those who want their privacy, who want to keep the government from interfering with their dirty little deeds, but keep strict tabs on anyone else. Not all Republicans are bad, and I don't want anyone to leave this post with that impression. All I'm saying is that we've come to realize that we've made some bad choices in the last two presidential elections. Let's vote a bit smarter the next time.
